Issues of Mac vs Windows Fonts

This page is really a placeholder for some notes recording the results of experiments; it's not (yet) a definitive treatise on handling Mac and Windows font names.

Macintosh FrameMaker, for some reason, names some font families with special names; for example, Arial Black is called Arial Black MT. An efffect of this is, for example, if you use Arial Black on Mac, then send it to a Windows user who is using the Arial Black shipped with Windows (others are available from Monotype and Ascender Corp.), Windows will complain that it cannot find Arial Black MT.

These name changes appear to be embedded in the FSUB resource of the FrameMaker executable.

In my tests, I modified the Arial Black > Arial Black MT to both the same (both are Arial Black). This made the Mac-Windows conversion work.
